Philippines, China left as two candidates to host 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup

FIBA Executive Committee confirms that 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be held in Asia. “It was confirmed that the 2019 event will be played in Asia with China and the Philippines as the two candidates left in the race to host it,” FIBA said in a news release.

FIBA Central Board will be making the final decision in June.

“The Philippines can host the World Cup,” FIBA Secretary-General Patrick Baumann said after FIBA Evaluation Commission assessed Philippines for possible hosting of 2019 Basketball World Cup. “Yes they can.”

The four-man FIBA Evaluation Commission, led by FIBA sports director Lubomir Kotleba, inspected possible locations where FIBA events on 2019 may be held such as Philippine Arena, Araneta Coliseum, MOA Arena, SM Cebu Arena and Solaire Gymnasium.
