The Philippine National Police deployed Special Action Force troopers and operatives from Regional Public Safety Battalion and Civil Disturbance Management in Makati City to ensure order and safety following the serving of Ombudsman suspension order for Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay and 15 others.
Makati City Vice Mayor Romulo Peña takes oath as acting mayor after the mayor’s suspension order was served.
“The police deployment was also in anticipation of tension that might arise between the supporters of opposing groups, in case supporters of Vice Mayor Peña arrives,” National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Carmelo Valmoria told Inquirer.net.
The Department of Interior and Local Government National Capital Region Director Renato Brion served the order by posting the letter of suspension at the city hall’s entrance at around 8:20 am today. The suspension order is in connection with the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall Building II.
