Laude family open to monetary settlement plus confession of homicide

The family of Filipino transgender Jeffrey, also known as Jennifer, Laude is open to PhP21-million settlement plus a confession to a lower offense of homicide, reports say. Lance Corporal Joseph Pemberton was charged with murder of Laude. Homicide carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment, while convicted murderer may see up to 40 years of imprisonment.

Julita Laude, mother of the killed Filipino transgender told GMA Network’s 24 Oras her son was the one supporting her medication expenses, now that Jeffrey is gone, the support stopped.

“There have been talks on plea bargaining. It is possible for an accused to plead guilty to a lower offense, in this case from murder to homicide. The difference here lies in the number of years,” one of the family’s lawyers Atty. Virgie Suarez told The STAR.
