Mall of Kalayaan Island Group: China creating Mall of Asia-sized structure in West PHL Sea

China is building a structure that is big as SM Mall of Asia at Burgos (Gaven) reef in the West Philippine Sea, part of the disputed Kalayaan Island Group (KIG), as shown in an intelligence photo taken January 28 to 31, 2015. Galvez named this multi-storey structure as Mall of KIG.

He added, “anong klaseng defense equipment ang puwede nilang ilagay sa ganoong kalaki? You can just imagine how dangerous this can be.”

National Defense spokesperson Peter Galvez said that Chinese reclamation in Calderon (Cuarteron) and Kagitingan (Fiery Cross) reefs were finished, while reclamation in Panganiban (Mischief) and Zamora (Subi) reefs are ongoing.

“We know that they are drilling, but what is it for? The mere fact that you are building infrastructure that is potentially security in nature is alarming,” Galvez added. “You can assume there is high-tech equipment involved. What’s stopping them from declaring another ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zone) in the area?”

“China should dismantle all these structures,” he noted.
