Akbayan Party-list Representative Walden Bello withdraws support to President Aquino’s administration. His withdrawal of support came one day after Aquino said the former Special Action Force Police Director Getulio Napeñas fooled him regarding the January 25 Mamasapano SAF operation.
“Mamasapano is a deadly acid eating at the presidency. Now, the President is engaging in a brazen cover-up of his responsibility and that of his trusted aide Purisima for the tragic SAF mission and placing all blame on the ground commander Napeñas,” Bello said in a statement. “This is the latest development in the shrinking of the man from a credible President to a small-minded bureaucrat trying to erase his fingerprints from a disastrous project.”
Bello added that he may also resign as the party-list’s representative in Congress. “Personally, I feel that I cannot continue to remain the congressional representative of the party if our positions on the administration are diametrically opposed.”
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in a message to reporters “Rep. Bello’s decision to withdraw is his own. My understanding is that Akbayan issued a statement that Rep. Bello’s statements are not that of Akbayan.”
