The Office of the Ombudsman suspends Makati Mayor Junjun Binay and six other individuals for six months over corruption allegations regarding the alleged overpriced construction of the Makati City Hall Building II.
“OmbudsmanPh preventively suspends Mayor Binay Jr., et.al. for (six) months, pending investigation of the Makati carpark complaint,” the Ombudsman posted on its micro-blogging account Wednesday morning. “OmbudsmanPh orders Mayor Binay, Jr., et.al. to file their counter-affidavits to answer the “Makati carpark” complaint.”
Binay camp is yet to make an official statement regarding the move of the Ombudsman.
Last week, an Ombudsman Special Panel of Investigators filed a complaint charging Vice President Jejomar Binay, Sr., Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr., and twenty-two others with Malversation, Falsification, violations of Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, and violation of the Government Procurement Reform Act.
