Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Charles Jose confirmed Monday that Joven Esteva, an OFW Filipino worker was executed today. The court charged Esteva guilty and sentenced him to death by beheading. “It is with sadness that we confirm the execution of OFW Joven Esteva at 9 am today (Saudi time) in Riyadh,” the DFA spokesperson said.
Esteva was imprisoned for killing his Saudi Arabian employer and wounding his employer’s son in 2007. He started working as a family driver in 2006.
“We have provided Mr. Esteva all necessary and appropriate legal and consular assistance, including providing a lawyer, since his arrest in 2007. Regrettably, despite efforts of the Philippine government, family of victim refused to grant forgiveness,” Jose said.
