Fund for 17,680 assault rifles, 945 motor vehicles, other PNP projects released

The Department of Budget and Management released P2.83 billion to the Philippine National Police for the improvement of the police infrastructure, facilities, and equipment. The said fund was part of PhP22.47-billion 2014 Supplemental Budget.

The fund will be used specifically for mobility, firearms, communication, investigation, ISO equipment, and infrastructure facilities of the PNP. The major project will be the acquisition of 17,680 Basic Assault Rifles and Basic Assault Rifle Magazines worth PhP1.044 billion. With the said fund, 945 police motor vehicles will also be acquired.

“Despite the challenges facing the PNP, the National Government fully supports the police force in fulfilling their mandate to prevent crime and maintain peace and order. In doing so, we place value not only on the PNP as an organization but also on the service and sacrifice of our valiant and fearless policemen.”

The PNP has PhP70 billion in the 2015 National Budget.
