AFP Modernization has P30-billion this year: National security among top priorities

National security, protection, and safety are among the paramount priorities in the national budget. The 2015 General Appropriations Act was created to improve the capability of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Fire Protection. “We’ve allocated the appropriate budgetary support so that these agencies can fulfill their tasks effectively,” Budget and Management Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad said.

The AFP Modernization Program will receive a budget of PhP20.0 billion from the allotment of the AFP General Headquarters as well as PhP10.0 billion from the 2015 Unprogrammed Funds. The Army, Navy, Air Force and GHQ were allotted with a total of PhP95.8 billion.

The PNP was allocated with PhP70.8 billion in the 2015 GAA and PhP2.83 billion in the 2014 Supplemental Budget.

“Safeguarding the country will depend on the ability of the PNP and the AFP to promote the rule of law and defend national sovereignty, respectively,” Abad noted.

“Creating an environment where there is just and lasting peace, security, and the prevalence of the rule of law is an integral part of our thrust to create inclusive growth.”
