PHL to China: Remain committed to peace

The Philippine government is hoping that amid a gargantuan military budget this year, China remains committed to peace. Reports claim that China is set to spend USD238.2 billion for its military this year, few billions great than the combined military budget of its neighbors with USD232.5 billion including Japan, India and ten others. Japan’s government approved USD42 billion military budget this year.

“The Philippines takes note of the increase of China’s military budget,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said quoting the Department of Foreign Affairs.

“While every country has the right to determine the level of its defensexpenditures, we hope that China, as a responsible member of the community of nations, also remains committed to the peaceful settlement of issues in the region,” the DFA said.
