Two SF-260TP aircraft and two MD-520 helicopters, under 15th Strike Wing of the Philippine Air Force, conducted airstrikes at Barangay Dasikil, Mamasapano, Maguindanao where Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters are taking refuge. “110 pounds of bombs accompanied by 2.75 inch rockets and 50-caliber machine guns pounded the said BIFF areas,” DWDD says in a report.
Government troops have successfully captured a factory of improvised bombs in the said barangay in Mamasapano on Sunday, March 1. Vital components for making bombs such as mortar fuses, ammonium nitrate, blasting caps and tie wires were recovered.
On Wednesday last week, AFP Chief-of-Staff General Gregorio Pio Catapang ordered an all out offensive against the Moro rebels of BIFF, February 25, exactly one month after the bloody Mamasapano SAF operation turned ‘massacre’.
In a statement released March 1, General Catapang said he will ‘significantly lessen’ BIFF and Abu Sayyaf’s ability to carry out violent attacks against civilians before he retires in July 2015.
