Armed Forces of the Philippines: We have more than enough troops to go against ASG, BIFF

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has more than enough forces to conduct all-out offensive and law enforcement operations against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters rebels in Maguindanao and North Cotabato; and terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group in Sulu and Basilan. “We have more than sufficient forces and reserves for both operations,” AFP public affairs chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said today.

General Gregorio Pio Catapang ordered an all-out offensive against BIFF fighters today, a month after the bloody Mamasapano SAF operations turned ‘massacre’.

Also today, Joint Task Group-Sulu encountered the ASG terror group in Patikul, Sulu. Initial military report says 5 ASG bandits were killed while 2 scout rangers were also killed. 1st Scout Ranger Battalion and 16th Special Forces Company were engaged with at least 200 bandits.

“Air and ground support [were provided] while the police established different blocking positions serving as blocking force against fleeing bandits,” Western Mindanao Command information officer Capt. Ma. Rowena Muyuela said.
