“Someone should learn from Ramon Bautista who called the women of Davao as ‘hipon’,” Albay Governor Joey Sarte Salceda posted on his social networking page. “Pero dito wholesale – I DID NOT COME HERE TO PROMOTE ALBAY. That’s all Albayanos across generations, now, before and in the future.”
In an interview with Radyo ng Bayan Albay, Chief of Staff of Governor Salceda Atty. Caroline Cruz said Xian Lim arrived at The Oriental Hotel around 11 am February 19 for Fiesta Tsinoy 2015. Cruz said she welcomed Lim and presented souvenir items as part of Traditional Gift Giving. However, when the provincial official showed the shirt and coffee table book, Xian Lim allegedly said “I did not come here to promote Albay.”
With the said incident, some Albayanos have expressed their dismay using social media and are calling to declare the Chinese-Filipino actor as persona non grata in their province.
Xian Lim, through his micro-blogging account, denied he told Atty. Cruz that he’s not in Albay to promote the province. He added that what he told the official was he cannot wear the shirt for possible conflict with his clothing endorsement. He added that he would
“I deeply apologize to Governor Salceda and the people of Albay for the misunderstanding about my reasons for refusal to wear the t shirt,” the actor apologized.
He added “if you send me the t shirt and after I have cleared it with my clothing endorsement, I would be more than happy to wear it online and on air. I am also very willing to promote the book of Albay.”
