“We are in the middle of the peace process and trust to each other is important, not only between the uniformed services and MILF, but also between the MILF and Filipino citizens,” Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel A. Roxas II said today upon officially receiving the 16 returned firearms of Special Action Force from Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
“This is a good first step,” Secretary Roxas said, however, this is just the beginning of rebuilding trust needed for peace agreement.
“We will double check the serial numbers and the completeness of parts of the surrendered arms,” PNP OIC Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina said at the same event.
Espina said the MILF needs to return remaining firearms collected by MILF after the bloody Mamasapano encounter. He added that the rebel group should also surrender Basit Usman and MILF fighters responsible for the death of 44 SAF troopers.
