“I could make this sacrifice if only to save this country from being fractured,” Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte said before the youth of Dagupan City, Pangasinan in Northern Luzon. The mayor is in a ‘listening tour’ and is conducting forums on federalism.
“If only to save this Republic, I could run for President,” Mayor Duterte said on February 18 at Lyceum-Northwestern University in Dagupan City.
The statement from Davao’s mayor came responding to a question asking what he could do to address the problems of the country.
Mayor Duterte said federalism is the best alternative in case the Bangsamoro Basic Law is not adopted or is watered down into a version which the Moro Islamic Liberation Front does not like.
Former Pangasinan Third District Congressman Eric Acuna told Duterte in response, “it is no longer a personal decision for you. It is your obligation. You have to save this country.”
