Both Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines have affirmed that they support lasting peace in Mindanao through the passage of Bangsamoro Basic Law. PNP Officer-in-charge Deputy Director Leonardo Espina and AFP Chief of Staff General Gregorio Catapang who have been attending hearings both in Senate and House of Representatives said they are for peace and not for war.
“There is no doubt that we are all for the peace process. Because first and foremost, we are peacekeepers. We are your peacekeepers,” Deputy Director General Espina repeatedly said in hearings. But he wants clear answers from the other party of the peace process. “Why did you finish my men?”
“I am hoping and praying that we can have lasting peace. We should avoid all-out war. War would only result to death. It must be peace with justice,” Vice President Jejomar Binay said.
The Vice President also said he does not support any call for President Aquino’s resignation. “I am hoping and praying that the President will overcome this problem very soon.”
