The Department of Transportation and Communications is now searching for a firm that could provide a detailed engineering design for the first Bus Rapid Transit System in Metro Manila. The BRT system will run from Quirino Highway to Manila City Hall route.
“The corridors’ strategic importance and its connections with the Light Rail Transit Line 1, Metro Rail Transit Line 3 and Philippine National Railways, together with its high volume of travel, make it a vital mass transit route,” DOTC said.
“It is a route that is not currently served by any form of mass transit.”
The first BRT system in Metro Manila, second in the country, is expected to serve approximately 280 thousand passengers daily when it starts operating in 2018.
Philippine government already inked a USD141-million loan agreement with World Bank to finance the Bus Rapid Transit Project in Cebu. The government will provide USD87 million to complete the PhP10.6 billion budget for the transport system.
