Resigned PNP chief: It was a successful mission at very high cost

Resigned Philippine National Police Chief Director General Alan Purisima read his resignation letter on GMA’s 24 Oras and was later made available to media. “The past few days have been very difficult for me, my family and friends. I can only surmise that things may have been even more difficult for you, Mr. President,” Purisima said in his opening.

The Mamasapano PNP-SAF operation is the main reason why the now ex-PNP chief tendered his resignation. He said he wants the President to “have more room to act and move to address the situation which is affecting the whole nation.”

“While we had a successful mission against terrorism in Mamasapano in Maguindanao, this came at very high cost,” the former PNP chief said.

He also expressed his sympathies to the families of his fellow SAF policemen. Purisima who was a member of SAF said “I know the sacrifice each and every member devotes to his job. To these, I salute to the brave and gallant 44 SAF personnel.”

In his closing, he said to Aquino that Tuwid na Daan has been his guiding principle and inspiration in serving as the Chief of PNP.
