United States of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed that the DNA from biological sample provided by Philippine National Police Special Action Force matched the DNA of Marwan’s relative. It was previously reported by Philippine news outlets that the DNA will be compared to that of Marwan’s brother in Guantanamo.
“As we have reported to our Philippine law enforcement partners, preliminary results indicate that the DNA profiles obtained from the biological sample indicate a possible relationship with a known relative of Zulkifli Abdhir aka Marwan,” Assistant Director in Charge David Bowdich of the FBI Los Angeles field office said in a statement.
“Although the results of the DNA examinations do not provide absolute identification, the results do support that the biological sample provided by Philippine authorities came from Marwan. Further testing and analysis will be conducted by laboratory examiners in an effort to fully identify the subject of DNA provided to the FBI,” he added.
The FBI official also extended the bureau’s deepest condolences to forty-four brave SAF troopers “who lost their lives while attempting to apprehend a dangerous fugitive.”
He added that partnership with the Philippine National Police is among the strongest the FBI has in the world.
