Chinese Coast Guard vessel rams Filipino fishing boats within PHL territory

A Chinese Coast Guard vessel rammed Filipino fishing vessels last week in Panatag Shoal also known as Scarborough Shoal the Inquirer.net reports. The incident occurred morning of Friday last week. The Chinese vessel hit three fishing boats destroying the outriggers. Filipino fishermen managed to fix their damaged boats by tying ropes.

No fisherman was injures, however, according to them they were traumatized. At least two Chinese Coast Guard officers were holding guns pointing at sea where the fishermen are.

“We were out at sea for five days when big waves and strong winds forced us to seek refuge in the shallow waters of the shoal,” a fisherman told Inquirer.net. They also saw ten more Chinese vessels patrolling Panatag Shoal.

The incident was already reported to Philippine Coast Guard.

Panatag Shoal or Bajo de Masinloc is an integral part of the Philippine territory. It is part of the Municipality of Masinloc, Province of Zambales located 124 nautical miles west of Zambales and is within the 200 nautical-mile Exclusive Economic Zone and Philippine Continental Shelf.
