Armed Forces of the Philippines: Everything that could be done was done to provide support

A fact-finding committee from the Armed Forces of the Philippines has submitted a report to AFP Chief of Staff General Gregorio Catapang Jr. regarding the actions taken by the Philippine Army during the bloody encounter between the PNP-Special Action Force and combined elements of the MILF and BIFF in Mamasapano town on January 25, 2015.

According to the committee’s report, Philippine Army had readily provided support by organizing a quick reaction force composed of troops from different infantry units including Armor assets of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade which were deployed for the extraction of wounded SAF personnel. It added that the 6th Infantry Division provided support an hour after it was informed.

“The AFP categorically states that everything that could be done was done under the circumstance with due consideration to avoid fratricide and collateral damage,” AFP said in an official statement.

The AFP added that it will turn over the committee’s findings once requested by PNP Board of Inquiry.
