Office of the President: Truth Commission not necessary, to have unified view

Office of the President is calling on Senate to reconsider the creation of Truth Commission to investigate what really transpired in Mamasapano Special Action Force operation. The Senate should determine carefully if there is really a need to create the said commission because there are already PNP board of inquiry and Moro Islamic Liberation Front executive commission to investigate, Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said.

Coloma added that members of the International Monitoring Team and the Coordinating Committee on Cessation of Hostilities who have knowledge on the incident offer assistance and inputs.

“They really should think hard about it so that we can form a unified view of the situation and the need to determine the whole truth and the real events,” Coloma told state-run radio.

Senator TG Guingona earlier nominated former Supreme Court Chief Justices Reynato Puno and Hilario Davide, Sr., and former Senator Wigberto Tañada to be part of his proposed independent Truth Commission.
