“The Philippines can host the World Cup,” FIBA Secretary-General Patrick Baumann said in an event at Makati Shangri-La hotel after FIBA Evaluation Commission assessed Philippines for possible hosting of 2019 Basketball World Cup. “Yes they can.”
The four-man FIBA Evaluation Commission, led by FIBA sports director Lubomir Kotleba, inspected possible locations where FIBA events on 2019 may be held such as Philippine Arena, Araneta Coliseum, MOA Arena, SM Cebu Arena and Solaire Gymnasium.
“With the efforts and the ambition to host the World Cup, I think this is extremely positive and an incredible step forward for the basketball community here in the Philippines,” Baumann added.
“I wish you luck, but I think you’re ready,” he emphasized.
Philippines is bidding to host the FIBA 2019 event alongside with China, Turkey, Qatar and Germany-France.
