“Although it’s unfortunate that people die in such events. What is important now is, next time there should be coordination so that this won’t happen again,” Moro Islamic Liberation Front chief peace negotiator Mohagher Iqbal said in media interviews.
Iqbal said that if coordination was made with joint ceasefire committee and the International Monitoring Team prior to said operation death of approximately fifty Philippine National Police Special Action Force operatives had been prevented.
“They entered the territory, they engaged, what will MILF do? Hindi pwedeng mag-baby du’n. Self-defense ang nangyari,” Iqbal said.
Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio ‘Sonny’ Coloma said “PNP-SAF conducted a law enforcement operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao to arrest a high-value suspected terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir also known as Marwan who was allegedly a member of the Markaziyah, Jemaah Islamiyah’s central command. The PNP-SAF performed this mission with courage and professionalism.”
“Based on latest reports, there is a high likelihood that the primary target, Marwan, has been neutralized,” Coloma added.
