The Armed Forces of the Philippines receives 23 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) Ambulances also known as Humvee. AFP Chief-of-Staff General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. will formally accept these vehicles today at AFP Headquarters.
These Humvee ambulances will be used by Philippine Army as part of its Forward Health Service Support System Requirement. Procurement was done under Philippine Defense Reform Program. Seven more units are expected to be delivered on next month to complete 30 units.
According to AFP, each ambulance is equipped with an ambulance shelter and medical equipment set that includes one oxygen tank, a first aid kit and two stretchers. AFP previously procured 23 units of vehicles of this type.
These vehicles will conduct quick medical response to wounded soldiers as being transported to the nearest hospital or other medical facilities. Main goal is to increase survival rate among combat casualties.
