Supreme Court decides Estrada stays as mayor

Former President and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada will stay as the local chief executive of country’s capital city. The Supreme Court, in an en banc session today, dismisses the disqualification case filed against him in an 11-3 vote.

Three justices who votes for his disqualification were Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio and Associate Justice Marvic Leonen.

Estrada was convicted for plunder case but later pardoned by Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2007. Mayor Estrada stands that the pardon fully restored his civil and political rights which has no restriction.
