Mayor Junjun Binay, et al facing contempt in Senate

“My referrals have already been submitted to Senator TG to cite in contempt some of the officials. I signed them a week ago,” Blue Ribbon sub-committee chairman Senator Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel III told the media today.

Pimentel said he submitted a signed recommendation to main committee’s chairman Senator Teofisto ‘TG’ Guingona III to cite Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, Professor Tomas Lopez Jr., Eduviges ‘Ebeng’ Baloloy, Marjorie de Veyra, Atty. Eleno Mendoza, Engr. Line dela Pena and Bernadette Portollano in contempt. These individual refused to attend couple of senate hearings regarding the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall Building II.

“Maybe the SC will entertain it because of novelty of idea but, as a lawyer, I know of no ground to grant the request first before enforcing a subpoena,” the senator said pertaining to the request of Mayor Binay’s request to be provided them with possible questions prior to hearing.

“I’m sorry but I cannot find reasons why the Makati City officials are on different level that they have such a right,” Senator Pimentel added.

The sub-committee’s hearing regarding the alleged anomalies in Makati City will resume January 22, Thursday.
