Cebu Pacific fined P52.2 million over delayed, cancelled flights

The Civil Aeronautics Board finds Cebu Pacific liable for at least 20 cancelled and 288 delayed flights during the Christmas rush from December 24 to 26 affecting approximately ten thousand passengers. CAB issues strong reprimand to the budget airline and asks a fine worth PhP52.211 million.

“After considering all available data and arguments, the CAB Board concluded that the main culprit was Cebu Pacific’s operational lapses and mishandling of passengers,” Executive Director of Civil Aeronautics Board Carmelo Arcilla told in a text message.

“The fine is based on a finding by the Board that Cebu Pacific’s operational lapses and passenger mishandling constitutes a breach of the basic condition of its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity, i.e., to provide proper, suitable, convenient, safe, adequate and reliable air transportation services,” Arcilla added.
