AFP Modernization focuses on HADR, West PHL Sea

As the First Horizon of Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization continues, the Department of National Defense is planning on what to acquire on the Second Horizon. The Second Horizon is set to run from 2018 to 2023 while the last phase will start 2024 and end on 2028.

Though the shopping list for the next phase is not yet finalized, DND Undersecretary Ferando Manalo is certain that their is an existing requirement for multi-role fighter aircraft.

He also confirmed that planning on what military equipment to acquire is focused on “humanitarian assistance and disaster relief and protecting our interest in the West Philippine Sea.”

The government is spending PhP90.8 billion for the first horizon to buy the 12 FA-50s, warships, helicopters, air defense radar system and other defensive equipment. USec. Manalo said the second horizon will need more than what the initial phase needed.
