Philippine Navy is set to officially receive final two AW-109E “Power” helicopters which are armed on Monday. This was confirmed to Philippine News Agency by Navy spokesperson Col. Edgard Arevalo.
Arevalo added that tentative date for the commissioning of these armed choppers is on January 16, 2015. Upon officially receiving the two AW-109 helicopters, the navy will conduct testing.
Philippine Air Force is also set to receive two out of eight armed helicopters of the same class from AgustaWestland.
“The AW109 Power’s superior speed, capacity and productivity combined with reliability and ease of maintenance make it the most cost effective helicopter in its class for a range of government tasks,” AgustaWestland said. “The spacious cabin is designed to be fitted with a number of modular equipment packages for quick and easy conversion between roles.”
