Philippines men’s national basketball team known as Gilas Pilipinas now has a new head coach in the person of Thomas Anthony “Tab” Baldwin, an American-New Zealander.
Baldwin who is a well awarded, most victorious basketball coach in New Zealand agrees to a four-year contract to lead the national team.
His most known accomplishment was leading New Zealand’s Tall Blacks to reach the semi-finals of FIBA World Championship in 2002, the best performance of New Zealand in the history of World Championship. He also steered men’s national basketball team of Lebanon and Jordan.
“The deal is a four-year contract and in the event that we will make it to the World Cup, there’s an option to be renewed for another year,” Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas vice chairman Ricky Vargas told InterAksyon.com via phone interview.
