PHL welcomes US study on China’s maritime claims

The Philippine government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs, welcomes US Department of State study entitled, China: Maritime Claims in the South China Sea.

US government finds in the study that “China has not clarified its maritime claims associated with the dashed-line maps in a manner consistent with international law.”

“The various maps published by China also lack the precision, clarity and consistency that could convey the nature and scope of a maritime claim,” states in the said study.

“The study’s factual account and analyses support the Philippines position on the need for peaceful clarification of maritime entitlements in the South China Sea, which the Philippines is seeking through third-party arbitration under United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,” DFA said.
