“We escorted them out until they reached the Sulu Sea, they turned north west to Mindoro Strait,” Naval Task Group 61 lead Captain Giovanni Carlo Bacordo said pertaining to eighteen Chinese fishing vessels with approximately 250 fishermen.
The Chinese fishing vessels left morning of December 10 after temporarily seeking safety due to Typhoon Ruby.
Philippine Government forces intercepted eighteen Chinese vessels after entering into Philippine territory Monday, December 9. Due to bad weather caused by typhoon Ruby, the fishermen diverted from their course to China from Indonesia wanting to seek shelter off the coast of Langhil Island, Basilan.
“They have a note verbale from the Department of Foreign Affairs. They have an authorized passage here though their departure [from Indonesia] came early,” Bacordo said earlier.
