President Benigno Aquino III’s trip to South Korea for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Republic of Korea Summit 25th Anniversary Commemorative Summit was canceled.
The President’s trip was cancelled due to Typhoon Ruby which is now weakening into tropical depression. Aquino chose to personally monitor the situation post typhoon.
Aquino was scheduled to be in South Korea from December 11 to 12.
“Please be advised that due to Typhoon Ruby, the President has decided to cancel his participation in the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit in Busan, South Korea this December,” Office of the President said.
“The President will instead send Cabinet Secretary Rene Almendras and Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima to represent him in the summit to enable the President to focus on actions that need to be taken in light of the aftermath of Typhoon Ruby,” Deputy President Spokesperson Abigail Valte said Monday, December 8.
