The 90-day suspension period ordered by the Sandiganbayan for Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada ended November 28 and 29 respectively. Detained Enrile and Jinggoy, with Bong Revilla, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the pork barrel scandal. Revilla’s suspension was ordered November 3 and will end January 31, 2015.
“Their entitlements as members of the Senate have been reinstated. Well, except for the fact that they cannot vote, because voting requires physical presence,” Senate President Franklin Drilon said.
Enrile and Estrada will now be able to receive salaries and propose laws.
“They are presumed innocent until proven guilty after all. We are only implementing the suspension order. So they are just back in the same situation as before their suspension,” Drilon added.
