Health Secretary Enrique Ona submitted a resignation letter to President Aquino, as reported early today.
Enrique Ona filed a leave last October 28 due to an allergic reaction to hair dye. His one-month leave supposedly ends today.
According to news report, Ona has refused the vaccine against pneumonia recommended by the World Health Organization in 2012. President Aquino sought an explanation from Ona over the questionable vaccines amounting to P833 million. Aquino also investigated Ona for purchasing protective gears and infrastructures against Ebola virus worth P600 million. Aquino strongly declared that he only wants to focus on preventing Ebola virus. However, Ona defended himself saying that it was not yet clear which product is more effective when he approve the vaccine for purchasing.
Aquino has appointed Janette Garin to act as a health secretary for the meantime. Meanwhile, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said he has no idea if Ona will be back to his work.
