Joint Task Group Sulu commander Col. Allan Arrojado confirmed that at least nine Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed in a major clash with the rebel group. “It’s a major encounter as of now the fighting is over. We are tracking their whereabouts, we are pursuing them.”
The task group commander said that government forces were conducting law enforcement operations against the Sayyafs when they encountered the group of 300 rebels spearheaded by Radullan Sahiron around 1:50 p.m. today, November 14.
Western Mindanao Command believes that ASG sub-leaders Hatib Sawadjaan and Julie Ekit were among the 300.
On the government’s side, five soldiers died while 26 were wounded.
“Five soldiers paid the ultimate price in the bloody fighting. There were 26 wounded soldiers and they were promptly treated by our medics,” Arrojado added.
Additional troops were deployed to join the follow up operations. Choppers were also deployed.
Arrojado said that the operation is part of the main goal to neutralize the rebels at once.
