US Marine Pemberton now in Camp Aguinaldo for joint custody

US Marine Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton is now in a joint custody of US and Philippine military at Camp Aguinaldo. “He will be detained at the Mutual Defense Board Security Engagement Facility inside the camp while the preliminary investigation is ongoing,” said Geneneral Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The said facility where Pemberton is detained, is a container van with air-condition. “He will be sleeping in a military-type camp bed with an airconditioned system,” the AFP Chief added.

Pemberton is the primary suspect in the killing of a Filipino transgender.

“The US government is sensitive to our feelings. They want to show they respect our justice system,” General Catapang noted.

US Secretary of State John Kerry earlier said, “We will, indeed, uphold our agreements with our friends in the Philippines – they deserve nothing less.”

Kerry added that he want the Filipino people to know that the US government is “not seeking a special privilege, that everybody’s rights will be appropriately protected.”
