De Lima to Binay: Is this a valid argument to prove innocence

Vice President Jejomar Binay says that his political woes have been hitting him below the belt and it is already foul. He also said there is a selective justice.

“Complaining about selective justice was never the defense of the innocent,” De Lima said. “To expose the alleged luxury vehicles of Senator Trillanes will never explain the provenance of the air-conditioned piggery and gardening site, a 350-hectare estate.”

“To claim that former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is innocent and merely persecuted by this administration despite her illness is not a convincing response to testimonial evidence of unprecedented plunder of local government coffers,” the justice department chief added. “Is that a valid argument to prove his innocence?”

Office of the President defended Justice Secretary Leila de Lima’s initiative to join the investigation on the alleged corrupt practices in Makati City. “Secretary De Lima and the DOJ are only performing their mandate – It would be difficult if the issue would be that they are not performing their mandate,” Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte told Radyo ng Bayan Saturday, October 18.

Valte added that de Lima is working “based on the facts and circumstances that have been presented.”
