Aquino to receive highest recognition given by Indonesian government

Indonesia is set to award President Benigno Aquino III with the highest recognition Indonesian government can award to a civilian. Aquino will receive Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna (Star of the Republic of Indonesia) award. A first for a Filipino.

President Aquino will receive the recognition for “continued strong commitments and merits in promoting the bilateral ties between Indonesia and the Philippines in the past few years in many fields.”

The “Star of the Republic of Indonesia” (Bintang Republik Indonesia, BRI) is awarded to a person who has given extraordinary service to the integrity, viability, and greatness of Indonesia. It is the highest decoration awarded by the Government of The Republic of Indonesia.

Aquino is expected to arrive in Indonesia evening of October 9.

During the first half of this year Philippines and Indonesia reached a peaceful resolution for maritime dispute in the Mindanao Sea and Celebes Sea.

“The conclusion of the negotiations attests to the friendship, patience, goodwill and commitment of the Governments of the Philippines and Indonesia to peacefully address maritime issues,” Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Policy Evan P. Garcia said.
