Protestant church in North Cotabato bombed

A 40-millimeter shoulder-fire grenade exploded inside United Church of Christ in the Philippines in Pikit, North Cotabato. The grenade was fired from the outside passing through the entrance of the church Wednesday evening during a worship event.

As of posting time, two have already died and three were hurt from the explosion. All victims are members of UCCP church. UCCP is a Mainline Protestant church established in early 1900s in the Philippines.

“No circumstance or reason can justify such a deplorable act on a house of worship leading to death and injury to worshippers,” UCCP Bishop Reuel Norman Marigza said in a press release.

“We urge the authorities to act speedily in thoroughly investigating the incident to uncover the perpetrators and their motives for this dastardly act.”

“We condemn in the strongest term the bombing of one of our local churches in Mindanao,” says Marigza.

Initial reports say that a riding in tandem fired M203 grenade. Security officials are now investigating on the motive and identity of the bombers.
