Founder and president of New7Wonders Bernard Weber, announced the top 14 cities in Munich, the technology hub of New7Wonders. Vigan city makes it to the top 14 finalist of New7Wonders alongside with the cities of Barcelona, Beirut, Chicago, Doha, Durban, Havana, Kuala Lumpur, La Paz, London, Mexico City, Perth, Quinto, and Reykjavik.
Voting for the New 7 Wonders is still ongoing until the final round. Voting can be done through new7wonders.com, via applications on iPhone and Android, international telephone voting lines and SMS. The announcement of the 7 Official New7Wonder Cities will be on December 7.
Vigan is a fourth class city and the capital of the province of Ilocos Sur. The city is also listed by United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization in 1999 as a World Heritage Site. Vigan is famous of its unique colonial European architecture and cobblestonestreets.
Cebu and Iloilo city made it to the 77-longlist of New7Wonders Foundation released last October 2013, however, Vigan was the only one that made it to the Top 27.
The Department of Foreign Affairs encouraged Filipinos to vote for the heritage city of Vigan.
