New Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to the Philippines Ephraim Ben Matityau officially met President Benigno Aquino III in Malacanang for the Presentation of Credentials.
“Israel has 1,301 good reasons to thank the Philippines and you Mr. President. Your nation has 1,301 good reasons to stand proud before the family of nations as a role model,” the new Israeli envoy told President Aquino.
During the presidency of Manuel L. Quezon, approximately 1300 European Jews were saved from probable extermination in the Holocaust.
Matityau also recognized Filipinos working in Israel. “Israel is thankful to many thousands of Filipinos who, with great hearts, are working so hard as caregivers to many Israelis in need. Those Filipinos and the Israelis they care for are Ambassadors of goodwill and another pillar of friendship.”
Next year, Israel will be creating a friendship monument. “Next year, we are going to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the liberation of Manila. On that occasion, we hope to dedicate a friendship monument in Manila presented by the people of Israel in appreciation to the Filipino people.”
Israel’s Elta Systems will be providing the Philippines with three air surveillance radars, worth PhP2.68 billion, plus a freebie radar for the country to effectively monitor air intrusions in the West Philippine Sea. These radars will be installed in Palawan, Lubang in Mindoro, and Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte.
