PSG, peacekeepers from Golan to keep Pope Francis safe in PHL

President Aquino vows to protect Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church from any incident while in the Philippines on January 15 until 19 next year. Presidential Security Group and two battalions from the Armed Forces of Philippines including the peacekeepers from Golan Heights will make sure of this.

“What the PSG affords me, I want to see them double the effort especially for the head of the Holy Mother Church,” Aquino said. However, the President didn’t go into details for security reasons.

Armed Forces public affairs chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said “The peacekeepers’ experience beyond Philippine borders may serve them well as many people from all walks of life are expected to come to the Philippines to see the Pope.”

These peacekeepers are the same troops who made the “greatest escape” while surrounded by Islamic militants in Golan Heights.

The AFP leadership believes that these troops’ exposure and experience gained from Syria will contribute in keeping Pope Francis safe while in the Philippines.

Due to Islamic State-problem being faced by the whole world, a credible threat puts the Pope at risk.
