VP Binay cancels live address, went to typhoon-hit areas

“The vice president thinks that while there is an appropriate time to respond to the issues, the need to alleviate the suffering of typhoon survivors cannot wait. The vice president wants to reassure the people of Cagayan and Isabela that their government is ready to assist them,” The Office of the the Vice President said.

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay went to Cagayan Monday morning to personally assess the damage caused by typhoon Luis. The Vice President is will also visit Isabela.

Binay was scheduled to make a live address on issues raised during the Senate sub-committee hearings. The OVP said it will still happen this week.

“We find it highly deplorable for the Senate leadership to use its authority to place into the Witness Protection Program (WPP) local detractors of Vice President Jejomar C. Binay with questionable morals and dubious reliability,” the OVP said.

“As we have said before, such a statement not backed by evidence will not stand in a court of law but only in a kangaroo court where judgment has been rendered even before the hearing started,” said Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, Vice Presidential Spokesperson for Political Affairs.
