President Benigno S. Aquino III will travel from Europe to the United States starting September 13 up to 24. The president will visit European countries to strengthen country’s diplomatic and trade relations.
After the Europe trip, Aquino will head to United States to deliver a speech in Global Climate Change Summit at the invitation of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. President Aquino will share Philippines’ adaptation experience with climate change.
Foreign Affairs Asst. Secretary Maria Zeneida Angara Collinson said the President together with his delegation will visit Spain, Belgium, France and Germany in Europe.
She added that Europe “is our partner in the political field when it comes to values, promotion of democracy, rule of law; support for the Philippine position in the West Philippine Sea. Europe is right there with us. So this is a manner of recognizing the importance of this region. It’s about time.”
“UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has invited world leaders, from government, finance, business, and civil society to Climate Summit 2014 this 23 September to galvanize and catalyze climate action,” UN said in a press release.
“He has asked these leaders to bring bold announcements and actions to the Summit that will reduce emissions, strengthen climate resilience, and mobilize political will for a meaningful legal agreement in 2015.”
