Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said US, Canada, Australia, and the European Union support Philippine government’s move for filing case in the Permanent Court of Arbitration regarding West Philippine Sea dispute.
“The world community will always be for settling disputes in accordance with the rule of law,” he added.
“We hope arbitration will proceed smoothly,” del Rosarion told Representatives during the House Committee on Appropriations’ hearing on foreign affairs budget for 2015.
On the said hearing, foreign affairs chief also defended EDCA from known critics like Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares.
Colmenares cited the 12% VAT exemption for US troops. “Why should an ordinary Filipino pay a 12-percent value added tax on his electricity bill and US soldiers would not be required to pay the same tax on their electricity consumption?”
Del Rosario said US troops will be given such privilege because it is a standard feature of an agreement wherein there is “mutuality of benefits.”
