Former AFP chief back in service to ensure preservation of national sovereignty

Former Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff, retired General Emmanuel Bautista returns to public service after a month from retiring as the top officer of AFP. Bautista will return as a civilian to serve as undersecretary in the office of the President.

During the change of command ceremony last month, President Aquino said he is giving Bautista a month to rest.

According to Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., the President believes that Bautista, with his capabilities, will contribute in managing country’s security situation.

The retired general will be designated as executive director of the security, justice and peace cluster of the Aquino Cabinet.

He will “ensure the preservation of national sovereignty and the rule of law, focus on the protection and promotion of human rights and the pursuit of a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace.”
