Since the online campaign calling one more term for PNoy broke into the mainstream media, a lot of reactions were made from private citizens, government officials up to the leadership of Catholic church in the Philippines.
Two congress representatives from Iloilo say that if majority of the Filipinos are calling for it then the legislative body of the government must hear it. “Everyone has an opinion on term extension but in the ultimate analysis, we consult our constituents on major issues. This is the beauty of democracy,” Iloilo City Representative Jerry Treñas said.
“If there will be a strong clamor from the people, then the party leadership will have to meet and take a stand on the issue,” Iloilo Province Representative Niel Tupas Jr. said.
Caloocan Representative Edgar Erice said he is planning to file a resolution to amend the constitutional provision prescribing a non-renewable term for the president.
Mar Roxas, a possible Liberal party presidential candidate, conforms to the idea of one more term for President Aquino.
On the other side, also a possible presidential candidate coming from Nacionalista, Allan Cayetano says he is not in favor of the idea but “if we truly believe in President Aquino, we should not endanger his legacy by putting a corrupt official into power.”
