Military’s capability to address external threats enhanced, modern rifles out on Tuesday
Philippine President and Armed Force Commander-in-Chief Benigno Aquino III, National Defense Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin and AFP Chief of Staff General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. will personally distribute brand new modern rifle on August 12 at the AFP General Headquarters.
27,300 units of 5.56mm M4 rifles will be distributed to Philippine Army and Philippine Marine Corps. These rifle was produced and delivered by US-based Remington Outdoor Company
The budget for this project came from AFP Capability Upgrade Program (CUP) 2012.
These 5.56mm M4 rifle will replace/boost the early models of M-16 and M-16A1 rifle.
“The AFP’s procurement of these brand new assault rifles is part of the thrust to modernize our armed forces, and start it with the individual foot soldier in the field,” the AFP publication said.
“With this recent acquisition, the AFP is optimistic that it will significantly contribute to the development and transformation of the AFP into a multi-mission-oriented force, capable of effectively addressing both internal and external threats.”
